We are delighted to bring you an exclusive interview with Jindřich Brejcha, known by his stage name Forbidden Society. This talented Czech producer has just released his new, fourth album “Lonely Road” under the prestigious label VISION.
I was inspired by personal experiences and reflections on values and goals to create “Lonely Road.” I wanted to create an album that would be diverse and connected to the thoughts I was experiencing. I wanted people who listen to my album to feel a shared emotional experience. This is something I’ve never done before and I think it’s something you only get to do once in a lifetime.
It started about two years ago. I already had a track signed to the label for a compilation called “Mission,” and they told me the track was great but asked if I had something newer since it was quite old. I work continuously on new music, so I had a folder with tracks I was working on. They chose one for the compilation, and the manager mentioned that Nik from Noisia liked many of the demos, so they encouraged me to keep working, with the possibility of putting something together later. At that time, there was no mention of an album.
I kept working, sending tracks regularly, and we slowly began selecting tracks for the album, gradually and without stress. In the end, there were 17 tracks in total. Fifteen are out now, and two bonus tracks will be released on vinyl.
It took me just over two years to complete the album, but it was entirely stress-free and without any pressure. I think that’s evident in the album.
I’ve been in contact with the label for several years, contributing to their “Mission” compilations and remixing for Noisia on the “Resonance” compilation. I think I’ve detailed this in the previous answer.
They are incredibly nice people, and I consider them my musical family. What I enjoy most is that they are absolute professionals. I can honestly say that I have never worked with anyone on such a high professional level. Everything was planned down to the smallest detail, and they consulted me on everything. It was a wonderful experience working with them.
They tried to help me in every way possible.
“Lonely Road” for sure. It’s a very personal track, and I put a lot of emotions into it that were running through my head at the time. Working on this track required planning and taking breaks as it was quite emotionally exhausting.
The best collaboration I’ve ever had with anyone. They are 100% professionals, detail-oriented, and everything has its order, planned down to the last detail. This is invaluable to me. They helped me with everything, even beyond music.
I will continue to collaborate with the label. I consider them my family. I have a solo 140 bpm track coming out on their next compilation, and I’ll keep sending them new material.
They regularly invite me to their VISION nights, so the collaboration will continue. In fact, we’ve already started discussing the next project.
My music and production have evolved quickly and dynamically. I started with hardcore techno, then moved to breakcore/digital hardcore, then to hard drum and bass, and now I’m into deep, minimal, and 140, sometimes even techno.
Along with this, my production knowledge and skills have evolved. I think I’ve made significant progress in recent years, which is most evident on the “Lonely Road” album, where I really took my time.
The biggest role. I love my fans; they mean everything to me. I have a very personal relationship with them. They know they can come to me anytime, and I have no problem answering questions, taking photos, chatting, or having a beer. Without fans, we’d be nothing, right? They keep us afloat and support us.
I appreciate my fans immensely and value their support over the years, especially during COVID.
An unforgettable experience? Once, fans came to the hotel where I was staying, called me from my room, and I went to have a beer with them before my performance. There were about 15 of them, and they made quite a ruckus in the hotel.
I have quite a few gigs lined up, planned until December. I’m also considering joining a foreign booking agency. You’ll most likely hear me at my beloved Beats For Love festival, where I host a stage with my label night under the furnace on July 6th. Definitely come by; it will be legendary. Ed Rush, Phace, Monty, Magnetude, and a big b2b with everyone at the end. Then there’s Let It Roll and smaller festivals like Coal and others in between.
I play DJ sets; I don’t plan on live performances for now as it’s quite complicated and financially demanding.
I try to stay active when I can – cycling, swimming, walking in the woods, and basically anything that gets me out of thinking about music. Then I go back to the studio with a clear head. Definitely, my family also plays a big role.
It’s also about the goal of improving and proving something to myself. I fulfilled my Mount Everest by releasing an album on VISION and remixing the gods Noisia. Honestly, I didn’t want to achieve more in terms of music, but we’ll see what the future brings. It might be different in some time.
